Chris Tucker will host this year’s BET Awards. The network announced Tuesday that the comedian-actor will host the show June 30 from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live. The 41-year-old is best known for starring in the “Rush Hour” film franchise opposite Jackie Chan. He said in a statement that he’s honored and “looking forward to being part of a really great show.” The BET Awards is part of three-day event the network is putting on that weekend dubbed “BET Experience at L.A. Live.” It kicks off June 28 with a Beyonce concert. Other performers throughout the weekend include Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, The Jacksons and R. Kelly.
Well damn BET has unveiled that it’s renewing four series, including “The Game,” and picking up four new series, including Gabrielle Union’s “Being Mary Jane.” The Viacom-owned network, which ranks as the top provider of programming for the African-American audience, continues to grow its original offerings by ordering a slate of new series and renewing the bulk of its primetime lineup. Also returning to BET are Let’s Stay Together for a fourth season; the previously announced Real Husbands of Hollywood‘s second season; rebooted video-countdown series 106 & Park for a 13th season; Apollo Live with Tony Rock; Bobby Jones Gospel, which ranks as the longest continually running original series on cable; gospel competition effort Sunday Best; and unscripted reality show The Sheards. The Game, which opened its retooled sixth season by marking its 100th episode in March, hails from Mara Brock Akil, Salim Akil, Kenny Smith and Erica Montolfo-Bura. I see BET isn’t playing this year!
R&B singer Robin Thicke, no longer wants to work with BET and the “Real Husbands of Hollywood” anymore. According to a gossip blog, Robin Thicke abruptly quit the show after making the cast and crew wait hours for him to show up to set. Thicke, singer no longer wants to be a cast member on the fake reality show sitcom because he feels it’s tarnishing his brand. He doesn’t believe he has the type of fans who watch BET. As you would expect, the executives over at BET are upset because Robin Thicke was looked at as the person who brought a little bit of crossover appeal to the show. Sources also say, a member of Thicke’s camp called the set after Thicke had the television crew waiting for hours to say, “Keep the check because Robin is not doing the show anymore.”

On the premiere episode, we’ll see how Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall) gets traded on Premiere Draft Day, and newcomer Bryce “Blue” Westbrook (Jay Ellis) steps in. On March 26th, “The Game” returns to BET with a special one-hour premiere and new cast members.
Yep, you read that right. Snoop Dogg—Snoop Lion if you want to get technical—was kicking it with Suge Knight in the club. Snoop posted a photo of him, the former Death Row Records HNIC and a couple of other guys, but doesn’t say exactly when or where the photo was taken. The “Deep Cover” rapper only included the caption, “N d club wit Suge miss those death row days!” As most Hip-Hop fans know, Suge (as well as Tupac) and Snoop had an infamous falling out with the Blood repping exec after the rapper left Death Row for No Limit. The only thing that could possibly be more head scratching than this photo is if Dr. Dre was in it himself, handing Suge a pair of new Beats By Dre headphones. While we’re on the topic of Snoop, he recently launched a video series called “Dime Of The Month.” The title makes it self-explanatory but just know it involves model chicks, bikinis, a random stripper pole and it’s a game show. Also, Don “Magic” Juan and Hits From The Street (the BET dude) are involved.
BET’s Real Husbands Of Hollywood mock-reality show appears to be a hit. Helmed by Kevin Hart, and featuring the likes of J.B Smoove, Robin Thicke, Nelly, Nick Cannon, and more, the show grabbed a larger audience than any other scripted program airing in its time slot. According to Vulture.com, RHOH earned a 2.0 rating (or 4 million viewers) among the coveted 18-49 demographic. That means BET won it’s time slot over everything on NBC, ABC, and Fox. “I personally thank you on behalf of the rest of the cast we thank you,” Hart told an audience at the Los Angeles screening of RHOH, last week. “We put a group of people together that I did not see ever coming together. All egos were put to the side, we all made a great television show.” Hart went on to state the motivation behind the show came out of the popularity of reality TV hits like the Real Housewives of Atlanta. “We all talk trash about them, but nobody’s mocked them. We took the opportunity to mock them the only way we know how, by making fun of ourselves as an example.” BET was able to keep interest high for its Second Generation Wayans show which aired directly after RHOH and averaged 3.4 million viewers. Additionally, encore presentations of both show brought in more big numbers, giving BET a total of 11 million viewers.
Keyshia Cole is not happy with the disrespect that she feels was thrown to her by 106 KMEL. The Bay Area radio station just happens to count Oakland—Cole’s hometown— as its demo, but bumped the singer to second place on their Holiday House of Soul roster in lieu of headliner, The Weeknd. Cole allegedly pulled out of the show, then went on Twitter to set the record straight. “EVERY F**KING YEAR I do something major for my city!
@KMEL has the nerve to tell me at the last minute they want me to open for the weekend [sic],” she wrote. “Then @106kmel tells us at last minute if I don’t then there’s no show! Them still uses my name when I refuse! I feel so f**king disrespected.”
She also sent a message to the baby-voiced crooner who stole her shine. “No disrespect to the weekend [sic]. Why the hell would
@106KMEL ask me to open for him in My home town! Where I give back! Where IM FROM! #NO” KMEL of course offered a different story. “When we were notified a week before her performance that she planned to cancel, we immediately removed her name from all advertising and promotion and offered refunds to those fans who requested.” Cole, who was replaced by Jeremih, has been getting some bad press as of late. In the last month or so, she’s accused BET of chopping up scenes of her reality show, Keyshia & Daniel, to make her look bad, and turned off some by announcing that she was bi-racial, and therefore hesitant about performing on Black Girls Rock! Her last album, Woman to Woman, debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard album charts selling 96,000 copies.
