AZ Contemplates Releasing Mixtape, Says "Doe Or Die II" May Be His Last Album

AZ shares his thoughts on the Rap game today and says his next album will be his last.

Earlier this week, Hip Hop veteran AZ spoke with SOHHand admitted that with the current state of Hip Hop, his next album Doe or Die II may be his last. ”Going from a major to independent, it’s two different zones,” he said. “I was doing independent from like ’05 and it’s a lot of work and then every few years, the game changes itself. This [Doe or Die II] might be definitely be my last album.” AZ admitted that while the game has changed considerably, he has never lost his hunger for the game. “I actually never lost [my hunger] to be honest. It was just a matter of the stars lining up and the doors opening and that certain sound coming back into existence.” The legendary emcee also admitted that he may try a different approach with his last album. ”I might put a mixtape out and then put an album out because this is the last hurrah for me. I’ve got a couple of cats that come are ready to come out behing me and I’ve got a good starting team and so I’m just going to play the game.” The Brooklyn, New York veteran’s last release was 2009′s Legendary, which featured guest appearances from Sheek Louch and Hell Rell.

AZ – “Genesis (Freestyle)” [LISTEN/DOWNLOAD]

AZ has carved a strong lineage for himself in Hip-Hop, kickstarted by a show stealing verse on Nas‘ Illmatic track “Life’s a B-tch.” Almost two decades later, Sosa remains one of the culture’s unsung heroes, known to paint vivid pictures of gritty street tales. Age hasn’t depleted Anthony Cruz‘s talent a bit, and it shows on his latest freestyle, “Genesis.”

The aphoristic track clocks in at just over a minute, but AZ’s potent bars give listeners enough game to compensate for its length. Esco’s Illmatic intro “The Genesis,” itself a sample from the Wild Style soundtrack, plays as the soundscape for the Brooklyn MC’s exclamations that rap “needs to bring that east coast sh-t back.” Fans need not worry, though. AZ expresses his views like a proud New Yorker, rather than the bitter old head from rap’s yesteryear. Sosa will make a resurgence in 2013, as he prepares the release of the long awaited sequel to his debut, Doe Or Die II, for later this year. Listen to AZ go off on “Genesis” below. via:hiphopwired
