Why Will Smith Turned Down “Django Unchained”

Will-Smith-After-Earth.jpg

Will Smith has begun the promo run for his up-coming sci-fi epic “After Earth” but he can’t jump ahead to the future just yet. In a conversation with EW the megastar answered once and for all why he turned down the titular role in last year’s slavery themed revenge western, “Django: Unchained.” Jamie Foxx was eventually given the role of the freed slave turned bounty hunter, but it was originally offered to Smith. The “Men In Black” star admits that he felt the story was “brilliant” but that it was “Just not for me.” But why? “Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead,” he confessed, referring to Christopher Waltz Dr. King . Smith added that he wanted Django to have more control over his fate. “I was like, ‘No, Quentin, I need to kill the bad guy!” Can you blame him? After this many years in Hollywood Will Smith has earned the right not to play second fiddle to anyone. Ever since it was revealed that Smith turned down “The Matrix” to do “Wild Wild West” every script he’s passed on has come under scrutiny. But we’re pretty sure that he took one look at who ultimately took down the slave master and realized that Django wasn’t quite what it was purported to be.

timbaland-birthday-1

Timbaland celebrated his 41st birthday with his wife Monique Idlett and a small list of industry friends Thursday, March 14, at Southern Hospitality, a Memphis BBQ restaurant in New York City. As one would expect, long time friend and collaborator Missy Elliott was in attendance. Other attendees included the current golden boy Justin Timberlake, who showed face with his spouse Jessica Biel by his side, Jay-Z, Jamie Foxx, and even Chelsea Clinton. Yes, we’re as weirded out by the last one as you are. Elliott made sure to publicly wish Timbo a happy birthday on Twitter. “Happy Birthday Bro we come from the Bottom together my Nig! *drakevoice* Love u may God Bless u 2 C many More Bdays!” It’s our guess that the festive gathering was also a celebration of Timbaland’s resurgence, most of which has to do with the praises he’s receiving for his work on Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience, which he fully produced. Just a few days ago, the Virginia producer alluded that he had more up his sleeve, tweeting “and just think u aint heard nothing yet haha i’m just gettin started.”

Freeway Ricky Ross Says Nick Cannon Will “Kill It” In Biopic [VIDEO]

Nick Cannon‘s forthcoming dream role has been approved by the man he’s set to portray: Freeway Ricky Ross. In an exclusive interview with Hip Hollywood, the ex-con showered Cannon with tons of praise. Cannon’s portrayal of the former drug dealer is a far cry from his more comedic gigs, including creating Wild’N Out and hosting America’s Got Talent. Ross however believes that the 32-year-old will do an amazing job. “My gut feeling is telling me that Nick is going to kill it,” he predicted. “I believe that he is the next big star, black star coming out, it just seems so right to me right now.” Ross is said to have reached out to the likes of Jamie FoxxLarenz TateDon Cheadle, and Denzel Washington about playing him. He believes that his story is different from films of a similar context, in that there “hasn’t been a drug dealer that has come out and put everything out.” Equally excited about the flick is Cannon. “I’ve been wanting him to play my role since ’96,” he said in a video posted online, further explaining his close relationship with Ross. “We family now, we are going to get this thing right. However long it takes, his story has got to be told.”

Donald Trump Says Django Unchained Is “The Most Racist Movie” He’s Ever Seen [PHOTOS]

You can always count on Donald Trump to give his opinion on pretty much anything. This time, Trump has slammed Django Unchained, as “the most racist” movie he’s ever seen. He’s a little late with the critique since Django hit theaters on Christmas Day, but given its two wins at the Oscars last night–in the Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor categories–Trump figured he might as well speak up. Trump was tweeting up-to-the-minute reviews of the awards show, and called out Django as a terrible film. “‘Django Unchained’ is the most racist movie I have ever seen, it sucked!” The 65-year-old isn’t the only person who hated the spaghetti-Western-style slave film. Spike Lee blasted director Quentin Tarantino over the work, only to face criticism over his criticism, from Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, and Jamie Foxx. Like in the case of Lee, speaking out opens one up to backlash, and the Twitter responses that Trump received were pretty epic. In fact, we’ve pulled a bunch of them for your review.

Katt Williams Says Jamie Foxx Is Gay, Slams “Django” [VIDEO]

While performing on stage in Los Angeles Williams, who has had a string of recent run-ins in the street and on stage, said that Foxx was sleeping with one of his male artists. “Who’s gay? Jamie Foxx,” said the comedian. “I can even tell you the name of the dude he f**ked. His name is Marcus Anthony; he’s the only dude signed to Jamie Foxx’s label.” His verbal assault continued with a condemnation of the slave western “Django Unchained” and Foxx’s decision to take the lead role.. “They offered me the script and I said any n*gga that does this deserves to die…and the next thing I heard Jamie Foxx was in make-up. The attack on Jamie Foxx seems to stem from a conflict in 2008 where Katt Williams was trading insults with Steve Harvey and Foxx took sides on his radio show.  Watch the clip below. via:TheUrbanDaily
