Nas Invests Six-Figure Sum In Mass Appeal Magazine

Eleven years ago, Queens, New York natives Nas and Large Professor graced the cover of Mass Appeal’s 18th issue. Now, Nas is a partial owner of the respected lifestyle magazine and website. Forbes.com reported the undisclosed six-figure investment this morning. “I always liked what Mass Appeal represented,” Nas told the wealth and business publication. “They invested into the culture … I saw their vision for what they planned and I thought I could add value across the board.” Nas is not Mass Appeal’s only new investor. White Owl Capital Partners, which is said to be a newer investment group with international holdings, also invested in the quarterly—which is resuming after a five-year print break.

With one of Nas’ onetime collaborators, Ray Benzino having rather notoriously owned a stake in The Source magazine in the 1990s and 2000s, a publication that praised releases from the Boston, Massachusetts rapper/producer. Nas was asked how he will broach such conflict. Responding to what could be potentially written of the Def Jam veteran, Nas said, “I don’t want to see it until it’s out. I won’t get involved with that at all … I won’t touch anything, they’re free to say whatever they want. They can say I’m a psychopath, they can say I’m a sweetheart.” The full interview on Nas’ business ventures is available at Forbes.com. Mass Appeal’s 52nd issue features Earl Sweatshirt, and an A$AP Family Tree.

2 Chainz Compares His Come Up In The Music Industry To Being In A Zoo

Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz has already had quite the whirlwind of a month thanks to his appearance in commercials for both Beats Audio and Adidas and to top it all off the rapper formerly known as Tity Boi will also serve as the cover artist for The Source’s annual “Man Of The Year” issue.

The issue features an in-depth interview with the rapper who spoke on his much talked about name change, breaking into the industry, and more. While speaking on his come up in the music industry 2 Chainz referred to the industry as being a zoo he’s all too familiar with.

“Those who haven’t been through that struggle don’t mind going to the zoo to pet the animals,” 2 Chainz explained. “They don’t wanna live in the zoo, but they don’t mind coming through. I’m someone who can show you around in a cool way where you don’t have to worry about getting eaten up.”

While speaking on the topic of his name change, 2 Chainz didn’t go into much detail in regards to what prompted the change, but did share that his music isn’t affected by either name.

“It wasn’t like my name made me rap better. I worked my ass off….It felt good to outdo myself and just be omnipresent and be a part of everything,” said the rapper.

The Source’s “Man Of The Year” issue featuring 2 Chainz  hits newsstands on December 4.
