DJ Paul Sentenced To Community Service After Getting Caught With Taser

Last year, Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul was arrested in NYC after getting caught with a taser. The “Stay Fly” rapper took a plea deal and was sentenced to community service instead of rolling the dice and hoping he’d be acquitted of a weapons possession charge if the case went to trial.

TMZ reports:

As we reported, DJ Paul was stopped by NYPD officers back in October after leaving a restaurant with an open beer in his hand. According to police, Paul admitted he was carrying a taser at the time, so he was placed under arrest for misdemeanor possession of a weapon. He was also charged with carrying an open container. Paul originally pled “not guilty” to the charges — but today, the rapper struck a plea deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to disorderly conduct instead.  He was sentenced to 21 hours of community service.

That should add up to about three days of helping to clean up NYC parks. At the time of his arrest, Paul didn’t know carrying a taser was illegal in New York.  ”Most of the places where I got houses at you can have them,” he told the Breakfast Club shortly after his arrest. DJ Paul released his latest solo album, A Person Of Interest, late last year.

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul Warns Justin Bieber About Syrup Use

Three 6 Mafia's DJ Paul Warns Justin Bieber About Syrup Use

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul is no stranger to codeine syrup. In fact, he and the rest of Three 6 Mafia released the popular single “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” in 2000. In an interview with TMZ, Paul was asked about Pop singer Justin Bieber’s alleged lean use. ”Man, I like Justin Bieber. I’m a fan. I can’t say don’t do [sizzurp] because I did my rounds with it,” said Paul, before adding a caveat: “But I stay away from it these days because I had a lot of friends that passed away from it.” ”It’s dangerous if you do too much of it.” He added, “But everything’s dangerous if you do too much of it. Sex. Even water. Jump in the ocean, that’s a lot of water. You might die. Too much of anything is dangerous.” ”They young dudes,” said Paul of Bieber and his friends, who include Young Money’s Lil Twist. “It’s just a phase they’re going through. I was the same when I was younger. Just a little more dangerous.” DJ Screw and Pimp C are among the notable deaths connected with the use of syrup.

Happy Birthday Aaliyah #R.I.P

One of the most iconic voices and styles in entertainment, Aaliyah leaving this Earth entirely too early left an indelible mark on children who were young during her passing and have now grown to today’s top artists. From Drake, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, the influence that she has had on today’s top artists is unmistakable to those who were teenagers when she passed away in 2001. Artists such as Jay-Z, Three 6 Mafia, Master P and more also paid homage to her distinct sound by sampling her even while she was still alive. This week’s Wired 25, as we celebrate Aaliyah’s birthday, takes a look back at the 25 best Hip-Hop songs sampling the late great Aaliyah.
