Sosa is finally free. Controversial Chicago teen rapper Chief Keef was released from a juvenile detention center yesterday (March 14). The “Don’t Like” rapper served two months for a parole violation. An ill-conceived interview with Pitchfork that was held at a gun range is what sent Keef back to the kiddie bing.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Some two dozen relatives and supporters snapped photos with their cellphones Thursday as South Side rapper Chief Keef walked out of the Cook County Juvenile Justice Center after completing a 60-day sentence for violating his probation for a gun conviction. The 17-year-old rap sensation was taken into custody Jan. 15 after a juvenile court judge ruled that Chief Keef had violated his probation by firing a rifle at a gun range during an on-camera promotion for his music last summer.

Will Keef get baptized as planned now that he’s a free man, though? Even his grandmother isn’t so sure. “Keith talked to me sideways about it,” Margaret Carter, Keef’s grandmother, told DNAInfo Chicago on Wednesday (March 13). “That’s his old neighborhood pastor. There’s no telling what he told Corey, and if he’ll do something different. But Keith’s little sister says she wants to go with him. And my oldest son says he wants to get baptized again, too. … We’ll see what Sunday brings us.” DNAInfo also reports that Keef is no longer on probation. Chief Keef To Get Baptized After Jail Release

Chief Keef is going to be re-born a new person–as soon as he gets out of jail. The young rapper will get baptized upon the completion of his stint in custody for parole violation. Keef allegedly met with Chicago reverend Corey Brooks to discuss plans for a baptism. Brooks leads the New Beginnings Church in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood, and came to the 17-year-old’s defense saying that he’s not “a bad kid,” but misunderstood. “I think people forget he is 17 years old,” Rev. Brooks said. “He is an entertainer, that is how he sees himself. But at the same time, he has a God-consciousness. He is not some terror who is wreaking havoc.” Since dropping his Internet hit “I Don’t Like,” Keef has found himself at the center of legal controversy. He’s been blasted for glorifying violence, his gang affiliation, and has had a fair share of issues with other rappers, including one aspiring rhymer, Joseph “Lil JoJo” Coleman, who was murdered after arguing with Keef and his crew. With an opportunity to put the bad press behind him, being in custody has given the young father time to think. “I got a message from him that he’s had a wake-up call,” said his manager, Rovan “Dro” Manuel. “I think he’s gonna come out a different person. I think he’s gonna come out with some new music, a new attitude…he’s gonna get out and do some shows, and hopefully go up the charts.” Keef is set for release March 14.
